About Dal Lake

Dal Lake is a small altitude lake that is located near the village of Tota Rani in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, India. The name Dal Lake is taken from the beautiful Kashmir’s Dal Lake. This lake is set in a grassy landscape and surrounded by the evergreen dense forest that gives it a mystical look.

The serene and quiet Dal Lake is a sight to watch as it is filled with crystalline greenish water. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped rocky mountains and a dense forest of deodar trees. As you will step further, you will get to see the Shiva Temple that marks the presence of the almighty Lord Shiva.

Tourists often visit this place during the month of September because of the fair that is organized on the bank of the lake. Among the tourists, the people of the Gaddi tribe come over here at a very large number to worship Lord Shiva. The temple is known to be very sacred and is ancient approximately 200 years. According to a legend, a sage whose name is Durvasa prayed to Lord Shiva over here.

Around this beautiful and scenic lake, you will find different varieties of plants and trees. On top of it, the main attraction of the lake is its crystalline and sparkling greenish water. You can do camping over here and also this destination is most famous for sightseeing, various adventure activities, bird-watching, and many more. During winters, this place will give you a more mystical view and when the ray of light falls on the lake, it will become more mystical and awestruck. There are several boarding, lodging, and equipment amenities provided by the Himachal Pradesh travel & tourism department that helps the tourists to discover a bit more about the place and its localities. Dal lake lies in the foothills of the gigantic mountain ranges that add an extra star to its beauty. Basically, dal lake is situated at a distance nearly about 7.8 km away from the main market, thus, you can reach here by taxi or a car.
