About Ghadhasaru Lake

Ghadhasaru Lake is located at an elevation of 3,470 m from the sea level in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, India. This lake is exactly situated at the Church tehsil that is located at a distance of 24 kilometers from Tissa. The Ghadasaru Lake is quite wide and enclosed around 1 kilometer. The maintenance of this lake is kept under the surveillance of the Tourism department of Himachal Pradesh.

About Mahakali Lake

Mahakali Lake is located in the Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh, India. The average height of the area is approximately 4,080 meters from sea level. Same to Ghadhasaru Lake, this lake is also a high-altitude lake. Particularly, the lake is laying between two places in the Chamba district namely Sano and Gudial. A few steps ahead of the lake, there is a famous temple of Maa Mahakali, and thus, the name of this lake is derived from this temple only.

It is believed and written in history that Jahangeer had tried to rule this place but the divine blessings of Maa Mahakali saved the lake and the nearby area. People often say that it is considered a myth until now that a messenger from Mughal Emperor came to the King of Chamba and delivers the message of Emperor Jahangeer to surrender. The general public did not want the Mughal Emperor to surrender, so all of them took an oath to commit suicide in the lake. Since then, the importance of Dhankar Lake is increased, and to remember that oath, a festival or event of four days is celebrated near this lake every year. There is also another saying that is again considered a myth. It is believed that Goddess Mahakali took a bath in this lake after killing so many evils and since then, if someone bathes in this lake, then it is considered as the vanishing of all the sins. You can reach this lake in three possible ways:

  • By Air: To reach this place, the nearest airport lies in Shimla. Once you reach Shimla, then there are lot of transportation facilities by which you can visit the lake.
  • By Train: The nearest railway station is also Shimla. You will find a direct train link from Kalka to Shimla which is available on daily basis. From Shimla, you will easily reach to Chamba as there will be many transportation facilities.
  • By Road: Enjoy the nature and ethereal beauty of Himachal Pradesh by going through a road journey. These are more fast and reliable as no direct links are available beyond Shimla, so it will not waste your time struggling about the trains and buses.
