About Nako Lake

Nako Lake is a small secluded reservoir that is located in the Pooh subdivision of the Kinnaur district, Himachal Pradesh. It basically comes under the boundary of Nako village that is half buried in the lake’s border. The climate of Nako Lake is quite good everytime but in between April to October you will get to see the scenic beauty at its peak. The charismatic bhrigu lake which is a high-elevated lake, located at an altitude of about 4,300 metres in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, India. We can also say that it is situated to the east of Rohtang Pass which is approximately 6km away from the Gulaba village of the Kullu region. As you know that this is a high-altitude lake, thus, you can reach here by trekking from the Vashishth temple which is nearby to the town of Manali.

As I have stated earlier Nako lake is so enchanting and apart from that it is surrounded by the willow and poplar trees. There are four Buddhist temples that you will encounter near the lake. Localities often say that a few miles away there is a town called Tashigang which was the meditation site of saint Padmasambhava. Being in close proximity to Buddhist monasteries, the lake is a pilgrim for the Buddhists. Once they pray at the Padmasambhava Temple, then they move further to see the beautiful and breathtaking view of the Nako lake. People often come here because of its fresh breeze and tranquil landscapes.

Most of the people say that Guru Rinpoche used to stay near this lake and have also brought Tantric Buddhism to Tibet and Bhutan. Guru Rinpoche is admired by the Nyingma School of Buddhists who praise him as their Lord, in other words, you can say that he is like the second Buddha for them. To remember him, a Buddhist Temple has been made beside the Nako Lake and people from different regions but especially Tantric Buddhists come to this place to pay homage to him. With each passing year, many tourists come to experience the beauty of Nako lake and seek the blessings of Padmasambhava that fill the soul with positive energy.

Nako Lake not only provides a mesmerizing view to the tourists but also a wonderful resort to the religiously inclined. Due to the dense forest of willows and poplars, the climatic conditions around the place are way best. As Nako lake is located at a great elevation of 3,662m, so there are just a few species of fish that are found in the lake. Though, anglers come here with their fishing rods but are hardly able to trap one or two fishes. You can also find the variety of birds flying overhead at Nako lake that truly captivates the view.
